Polymarket odds: cents, probability, decimal and moneyline

A Polymarket price is a single number, but everyone reads it differently — a sports trader thinks in decimal odds, a US bettor in moneyline, a quant in probability. Desk shows the same price in whichever format you read fastest, set per panel. Here's how they relate.

It's all one number

Every market price on Polymarket is really a share price in cents, from 1¢ to 99¢, and each share pays $1 if it resolves your way. That price is the implied probability — a share at 25¢ means the market thinks there's about a 25% chance. Every other format is just that same number wearing different clothes:

  • Cents — the raw share price, 1¢ to 99¢. What you actually pay.
  • Prob % — the implied probability. Cents ÷ 100.
  • Odds — decimal odds, the multiple you get back per unit staked. 1 ÷ price.
  • ML — American moneyline, derived from the implied probability.

How to convert between them

Two small sums cover everything:

  • Cents → probability: divide by 100. 25¢ → 25%.
  • Cents → decimal: divide 1 by the price as a dollar figure. 0.25 → 1 ÷ 0.25 = 4.00.
  • → moneyline: derived from the implied probability — favourites (over 50%) show a minus number, underdogs (under 50%) a plus.

Decimal is the most intuitive for payout: a share at 25¢ trades at 4.00, so a right answer returns four times your stake. As the price rises the decimal falls toward 1.00 — less to win, because the market thinks it's more likely.

A quick conversion reference

25¢

= 25% probability = 4.00 decimal = +300 moneyline — a clear underdog; being right pays about 3× your stake on top.

50¢

= 50% probability = 2.00 decimal = ±100 / EVEN moneyline — a coin flip; double your money if right.

80¢

= 80% probability = 1.25 decimal = -400 moneyline — a strong favourite; you stake a lot to win a little.

Setting the format in Desk

Each panel carries its own display setting, so you can read one market in cents and another in decimal at the same time:

  1. Open the panel's Display menu.
  2. Under Price, pick Cents, Prob %, Odds or ML.

The whole panel — ladder rungs, position, P&L — redraws in the format you chose. Nothing about the underlying trade changes; you're only changing how the number is written.

Mode presets and the language toggle

Mode sets a sensible default for the kind of market you're trading, which you can always override:

  • Sports → decimal Odds with Back/Lay labels.
  • Crypto and FinancialCents with Buy/Sell labels.

Separately, Language controls what the two sides of a trade are called — Back/Lay, Buy/Sell, or No/Yes. That's purely wording: the action is the same whichever you pick. See trading basics for what those two sides actually do, and liability vs stake for how a laid price is staked.

Tip

If a market's numbers ever look unfamiliar, it's almost always the format, not the price. Switch the panel to Prob % to sanity-check yourself — it's the one that reads straight off as a percentage.
